Quality standards
Kerr’s of Edinburgh is a fully accredited member of the British Association of Removers (BAR), member number K026; meaning we adhere to its code of practice.
BAR membership means we meet rigorous professional standards covering insurance, financial protection, and customer service. As a BAR member, our customers benefit from access to the BAR Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme – independent protection if something goes wrong. Not every removals company in Edinburgh holds BAR accreditation. It’s a mark of professionalism that matters. It also means that advance payments (for UK domestic removals) are covered by the BAR Advance Payment Guarantee.
ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. Certification means our processes – from first enquiry through to completed move or storage – are documented, assessed, and continually improved by an independent body. For customers, it means consistency. The same standard of service every time, regardless of which team or vehicle is on your job.
BS EN 12522 is the British and European standard specifically for furniture moving services. It covers the requirements for professional removal companies carrying out domestic moves – vehicle standards, equipment, staff training, and service delivery. UKAS certification (number 233) means our auditor has been independently verified by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, the national body for accreditation.
BS EN 14873 is the British Standard governing the storage of furniture and personal effects belonging to private individuals. It is the only recognised quality standard designed specifically for furniture storage, setting minimum requirements for storage facilities and the services built around them.
Certification requires trained, competent staff, well-maintained premises and equipment, and documented written agreements covering terms, liability, insurance, and access. Facilities must operate intruder and fire alarms, maintain pest monitoring, and keep records of access to stored goods.
Kerr’s holds BS EN 14873 certification, giving customers confidence that our storage operation meets a defined and independently audited standard.
ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems. Certification means we have documented processes in place to monitor and reduce our environmental impact – covering fuel consumption, waste handling, and responsible disposal practices. As a SEPA-licensed carrier, responsible environmental management is built into how we operate, not just how we report.
ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management. For a business that involves heavy lifting, vehicle operations, and physical labour, this certification matters. It means our approach to staff safety is formally documented, regularly assessed, and independently verified – not just a policy on paper.
Kerr’s is a member of the Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman (FHIO) scheme. This provides customers with access to free, independent dispute resolution if a complaint cannot be resolved directly with us. Membership is a condition of BAR accreditation and means customers have a formal route of redress beyond our own complaints process.
Kerr’s holds a SEPA waste carrier authorisation, required by Scottish law for any business collecting, transporting or disposing of waste. This authorisation is relevant for our disposal and clearance services – house clearances, commercial property clearances, and responsible disposal of unwanted items. Customers using our clearance service can be confident their items are handled and disposed of legally and responsibly.
Check our authorisation on SEPA’s public register, or find out more on the SEPA website.
ECO Stars is a fleet recognition scheme run by local authorities across Scotland that independently assesses fleet operators on fuel efficiency, vehicle standards, driver behaviour, and environmental performance. Members are awarded a star rating from one to five based on their fleet profile and operational practices.
Kerr’s holds a three-star rating, registered across Edinburgh, East Lothian, and West Lothian. Assessment covers the vehicle fleet’s engine standards, in-cab monitoring, maintenance practices, and fuel management approach.
Membership sits alongside our ISO 14001 environmental management certification as part of a broader commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our fleet operations.

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. For our customers, it means every process we follow, from taking bookings to completing moves, is designed to deliver reliable service and continuous improvement. It’s how we ensure that even as we grow, the quality of your experience remains consistent and high.
ISO 14001 sets out a framework for managing and reducing the environmental impact of our operations. By holding this certification, we demonstrate that we actively track our emissions, reduce waste, and make sustainable choices wherever possible. It’s one way we align our work with wider environmental responsibilities, and support customers who care about their environmental footprint.
ISO 45001 is the global standard for occupational health and safety management. It ensures that we have robust systems in place to protect the well-being of our team and anyone affected by our work. From manual handling practices to site safety, this certification underpins our commitment to running a safe, responsible operation, every day, on every job.
BS EN 12522 is the only recognised quality standard specifically for furniture removals in the domestic market. As certified holders, we follow proven procedures that ensure your home move is carried out with care, professionalism and consistency. It covers everything from planning and packing to transport and customer service, giving you added confidence that your move is in safe, experienced hands.
The British Association of Removers is the UK’s leading trade association for removals. Members must meet strict financial stability requirements and quality standards. Your deposit is protected by the Advanced Payment Guarantee, and you have access to an independent dispute resolution scheme.

The Advanced Payment Guarantee applies to domestic residential moves only and is subject to T&Cs. Read the full APG details on the BAR website.
